There are a lot of misconceptions about the source of ‘breakthroughs’ in our understanding of reality.
When you’re right at the cutting edge of science and innovation, you don’t actually have to go far to find solutions for problems. What’s required is just a slight change of perspective, and then you notice solutions close at hand…
For example, I got this idea for a chicken ankle brace from my neighbour. He uses an ankle bracelet as well – for him, it’s just a different form of support.
Now, I’m absolutely not suggesting that the illusion of progress in science and technology is sustained, by the absorbtion method, in one corner of the universe, through the perpetual abuse and torture of someone of something in another corner. That belief system is called Neurolinguistic Programming, and it’s the spiritual practice of My Second Dragon Morpheus (he’s been in need of some support structures since his botched mystical experience and subsequent escape from the authorities).
I’m simply saying that unless there’s someone at the coalface of innovation who is mathematically gifted enough to transform that torture into insight, and send back these insights to others, it’s very difficult to make advances in problem-solving.
How do we send information backwards in time from the future, and what needs to die about our expectations of that future, to facilitate this sacrifice?
Where is Scott Aaronson and his quantum computer when we need him?
Don’t get me wrong, we don’t want to build any mathematical superstars who draw too much attention to themselves, or the system might collapse under the weight of its own naval-gazing…
The central question, which is pertinent to my upcoming show ‘Storytime with Shamin’ Shaz’, is what is the optimal size of your audience when you’re setting things on fire and hatching out dragons in the undieworld?
By the way, the gender of the hatchlings is currently unknown – they are obviously in a superposition of possible states, with regard to whatever the hell I’m talking about. Let’s just not call them ‘humans’, please. They are quite obviously Supernatural Agenda Benders 😀
